A fair few suggested the following which I will use. (thanks to Jay Vlack)

Run zeero with the -df options on the raw device c partition. Run this
six times in a row to thoroughly "wipe" the disk. For example:

# /usr/lbin/zeero -df /dev/rrz2c
(repeat 6 times)

There are other methods that can be used as well, such as scu (SCSI Cam
Utility) from the OS level, and dilx (Disk InLine eXerciser) from an HSx
controller. If you have really sensitive data on the disks the safest
option is to crush them
