moving cartridges in a MSL5026 Library set to "sequential" mode

Dear friends,

today the topic on which I ask your invaluable help is the following:

Given a MSL5026 SDLT Library, how can I move cartridges
when the Library Mode is set to "Sequential" ?

The library works perfectely when Library Mode is set to "Random" which
allows you to choose cartdridges using one of the following line
commands:

robot move drive X slot Y (MRU Utility)
robot move slot X drive Y (MRU Utility)
scu -f /dev/changer/mc0 move medium source XXX destination YYYY

Once you have placed the rigth cartdrige into the drive then you access
the tape using its device (dev/tape/tapeX) in vdump and other command.
But whenever the EOT is reached an error is sent to you.

The library is said to work even in another Library Mode called
"Sequential" in wich, at the EOT, the next cartridge is automatically
moved into the drive so that no human action will be necessary.
Humans has left only the duty to load the very first cartridge on which
the multivolumes dump will begin.

Unfortunately when in "Sequential" mode the MRU robot and scu commands
don't work any more leaving the poor user with a tape library which
cartridges cannot be moved using commands but only manually.

The problem is very serious since in such situation the user cannot use
scripts to do backups since there are no commands to load the first
cartrigde before giving the vdump command.
The user MUST be in the computer room in front of the Library and touch
the Library panel to move cartdriges and ONLY THEN he/she can start the
(no more) automatic multivolumes vdump !!!!

I already got an anser from HP/COMPAQ/DEC MRU Engeenering which simply
says that MRU does'nt work with "Sequential" libraries, but I'm sure it
must be a way to remotely manage a "Sequential" library otherwise it
would be almost useless.

Thank you very much to everybody,
Ciao from Italy,

Emanuele
