SUMMARY: Split window text console possible?

Thanks to Gabor Zelenak, Steve Freehan for suggesting the 'screen' and
'twin' utilities.

'screen' is part of GNU utils and allows toggling between multiple text
windows on a single serial device.

'twin' allows multiple window areas on the same text screen, which would
allow logs and login to coexist on a single device.

Both are GNU/Linux projects but Screen appears to have been ported also on
Tru64 so I'll give that a try.

Stan Horowitz also made a suggestion to use ssh with networking, but
unfortunately that isn't an option for us due to physical security
restrictions. Thanks for the suggestion.

Subject: Split window text console possible?

I would like to be able to split the existing text-mode console of CSG into
two areas.

One to contain the actual /dev/console output that would be normally
generated during runtime operations. The other to run a local login window.

i.e. so that an administrator can work at the console without the logs
occurring in the same work area.

The reason is that we have lights-out access to some of our AS4100's and
only RCM modem access to the console, hence it is useful to be able to split
the one console window into two areas.

Does anyone know of such a program that could replace the getty line in
inittab for the console device, in order to provide this function?

thanks.
