I had an amusing experience with the installtion of this
patch and I thought that I would share it with you all.

After upgrading my ES40 and DS20 AlphaServers from Tru64
v5.1a to v5.1b over this past weekend, I installed Patch
kit #1 and then attemped to install Patch kit 17362 which
   was t64v51bb1-c0006700-17362-es-20030313.tar. The
   attempts were amusing.

The exact same thing happened on both systems:

   1) cd to where the patch file was extracted to.

   2) ./dupatch

   3) Asks for top level directory of patch distribution.
        Answer with '.' .

   4) Churns a few CPU cycles and then comes back with the
        complaint that

                directory /var/tmp/patch### exists

where ### is some arbitrary number.

   5) Having seen this before in v5.1a, I did this:

        mv /usr/sbin/dupatch /usr/sbin/dupatch.bad

   6) ./dupatch

   7) Asks the same question in #3 again, and then
complains that a dupatch utility is required
to complete the patch install. FAIR !!!

   8) mv /usr/sbin/dupatch.bad /usr/sbin/dupatch

   9) ./dupatch

   PROCEEDS without any complaints !!!!

   Strange, huh?
