Hi,

Tru64Unix 5.1 PK3 ds10

We have now several times seen a strange problem, where the ps
command freezes in "U" mode. This time, it is when trying to get
information out of the ora_ckpt_<SID> of Oracle 9i. I cannot tell
whether it was this process the other times, as we rebooted the
machine. Anyway, I would never blame Oracle for this.

It looks like this, and PID 5020 is the ora_ckpt_<SID> process.
(Oracle seems to run OK..)

root 325315 0.0 0.4 5.99M 4.0M pts/2 U + Mar 21 0:00.04 ps -f -p 05020
root 252718 0.0 0.3 6.38M 2.8M pts/4 U + Mar 21 0:00.05 ps auxwww
root 21272 0.0 0.4 6.38M 4.3M pts/1 U + 23:37:31 0:00.07 ps aux
root 212436 0.0 0.4 6.11M 4.1M pts/7 U + 13:19:48 0:00.04 ps -p 05020
root 212024 0.0 0.4 6.11M 4.1M pts/3 U + 13:16:37 0:00.04 ps -p 05020

Any ideas?

Yours,
