pax with xtar option

Hello All...

My system:
Alpha ES40
Tru64Unix v5.1 PK4

My problem is ;

I need to backup a 33 GB single file (an oracle logical backup (export)
file )..
Now I am using vdump without problems, but I want to use generic backup
tools..

Pax seems to be a good solution.. But with the default switches, it does not
backup files over 8 GB..
But when I use with

pax -w -x xtar -f /dev/tape/tape0c .

it has worked !

Now I am trying to find whether -x xtar option is platform independent or
not..?
Anyone with other unix derivatives (SUN -HP) can check if it has such an
option for me ..?
Or better I can prepare a backup packged with xtar option, and someone can
try to restore it ..!

Any other pax experience very appreciated..
