In my recent summary I mentioned the contribution from Chris Ruhnke.

Dr. Thomas pointed out that this was not correct:
You quoted Chris thus:

> Chris Ruhnke <ruhnke@us.ibm.com>
> Pointed you that V5.1B would not be supported.
>
> I forgot to mention in my post that I tried to boot a V4.0D CD because I

Nothing was done in V5.x to block support on the AlphaServer 800, and
if the AlphaServer 3000 (which was NEVER supported in Digital UNIX or
DEC OSF/1 or Tru64 UNIX because it was sold only to run Windows NT)
is really essentially the same hardware as an AlphaServer 800 AND you
can get an SRM console running on it that really makes it look to the
OS as an AlphaServer 800, then it would probably just work (although
it may have hardware options that will not work, including maybe the
boot device, etc.)

What WAS decommisioned in V5.1A and later was the DEC 3000 and other
old machines that didn't have PCI bus support.

-----
Afterwards I got remarks, that my problems are caused by the in V5.1
dropped
Turbochannel support. This is also wrong because the AS800 and AS300
are not Turbochannel systems, which also would not be supported by
Linux.

Regards
Otto
