SUMMARY : Large file - can I delete it?

I posted a message asking if I can delete (on a Tru64 5.0a box) :

/var/adm/update/backup.tar.gz

The overwhelming response is 'yes'.

Some weren't sure that it was system generated, while some mentioned it
may have been created during the upgrade after I said 'yes' to saving
old files, etc.
