G'day. When we built our first cluster (we are running 5.1A) we had
a Compaq consultant onsite, and he recommended backing up the
shared /, /usr, and /var to a local tape periodically. He had a very
good explanation for why we should do this (our backup solution is
a centralized legato server) which had something to do with how
restoring these shared filesystems would be very difficult to do,
but I'm not coming up with the details of that reasoning.
Has anyone else heard this and if so, can you coherently explain
why this is important, as opposed to just relying on re-os'ing
and doing a networker restore, as we would with any other system?
