SUMMARY: WWID problem with 36gb drives

Many thanks to Dr. Thomas Blinn, who reinforced my suspicion that the WWIDs of these drives might be the same. This is supposed to be 'impossible', however it is in fact the case.

The command I used was:

hwmgr get attr -a dev_base_name -a serial_number -a manufaturer -a model -a phys_location

And just switched around 36 Gb drives between reboots. All my other 9 and 18Gb drives have differet WWIDs, and the 36's all have the same one.

HP techs verified this as well.

Now I just need new drives...

Thank you also to:

I don't know the particulars but I thought that those shelves only took
drives that were 9GB or smaller, at least from an officially supported
level. If you're using the 18s with no problem, great but you may want to
confirm that those shelves and the 36GB devices play nicely together. </MD>
Actually, I have BA356-SF shelves, which do support these drives.

And to Pat O'Brien who wrote:

have you tried several other 9 or 18 gb drives in the same shelve. I know I
have a bad shelf where I am allowed 4 of the 7 slots and when I put a 5th,
none can be seen. Also there is terminators and jumpers on the shelves, and
occasionaly I find a hba with a non statndard target id.
</PO>
I had switched the drives around many different ways, and the problem always followed the first 36Gb drive, but all others (in any position) were ok.

Thanks everyone!
