Hardware choice?

Management is spec'ing hardware for a new data warehousing application and
the recommendation that they've received from HP is a GS80 with 4x1224Mhz
procs and 8G RAM to start. Knowing how fast they scale things up around
here,
I think there might be significant savings in droping to something like a
ES45 and scaling the application (Oracle based) by going to Oracle 9i RAC
and adding more systems to the RAC rather than more procs to the box.

I'm going to give them my thoughts, but just want to verify that my thinking
is sane. Any thoughts or suggestions? Anybody have ideas of the relative
costs
of these approaches?

(further notes on my thoughts:
If you lease a GS80 now, you are paying a significant chuck of money
for the ability to scale easily.
If you go with a less expensive system that can only scale by adding
more systems, your cost when you want to grow a little is going to be high.
I don't expect them to try and grow the system for at least 18months

maybe 2 years if ever, but they could surprise me.
At time expansion with the ES45 option, cost would be even more
increased
by the need to add TruCluster licenses etc.
I could be totally wrong in my belief that the ES45 is significantly

less expensive than the GS80.
I am of the belief that the ES45 has a faster backplane etc than the

GS80 - this could also be false.
)

thanks for any comments,
