WWID problem with 36gb drives

Tru64 managers:

I have an issue with adding 36Gb disks to a cluster, which has me totally baffled.

I have a 5.1a cluster of two DS20e's, with two BA356 shelves and KZPBA controllers. I'm using 9 and 18Gb drives, DS-RZ1DD-VW's and DS-RZ1ED-VW's,
with no problem. I'm trying to add 5 36Gb drives, and I have DS-RZ1FB-VW's, and DS-RZ1FC-VW's.

What happens is that I add the 5 drives to the shelves (I've tried them in many positions, and the same thing occurs), and I can see them from firmware just fine. I can also see them from the SCSI CAM utility with no problem.

However, hwmgr -view devices only shows ONE 36Gb drive, the first one on the bus. If I only add one 36Gb drive, this works fine. If I add two or more, they're unusable. The o/s (ie. diskconfig) can only see one 36Gb drive, even if there are many on the shelf.

I've double checked all the SCSI connections, and these are ok. I've swapped SCSI controllers, and the problem continues. I've tried booting from the 5.1b install CD, and the problem shows there as well.

SCSI seems fine, because scu and the firmware see the drives fine, but the o/s can only see one, and if there is more than one, nothing can be done with it.

I suspect that when multiple 36Gb drives are added, many paths are added with ONE WWID, based on what I see in scu and hwmgr -scan scsi...but I'm not sure. Even if that is the case, it's very bizarre.

If anyone can shed any light on this, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!
