SUMMARY:Mounting LSM volumes after 5.1a upgrade

I finally got it. The problem is that 5.1a doesn't correctly handle
the upgrade of UFS filesystems on LSM volumes. This is sort of hit upon in
the release notes, but they don't mention that it applies to all LSM volumes
with UFS filesystems, not just the root ones. I had been looking for the
location of this "unused" partition type and, while I haven't found it yet,
I have found that the voledit command can be used to modify it while the
system is still on 4.0f. This could probably also be done after the upgrade
and before an attempt is made to mount the filesystems, but I haven't tried
that.

        The answer is to do:

        # voledit -g <disk group> set fstype=4.2BSD <volume list>

Then, after 5.1a comes up, you have to run these commands to restore
the LSM configuration (the LSM manual sort of neglects to mention these):

        # volinstall
        # voliod set 2 (or whatever)
        # vold -m disable
        # voldctl init
        # voldctl enable
        # volrecover -sb

The filesystems can then be mounted.

Subject: Migration from DigitalUnix 4.0f (UFS) to Tru64Unix 5.1A(ADVFS)

Hi all,
Can somebody guide me the smooth migration of OS 4.0F to 5.1A in terms of
Oracle Database and other Applications in production environment.
Though I know, I have to do new installation of Tru64Unix 5.1A on a seperate
System Disk, but how can I migrate UFS filesystems of 4.0F to 5.1A ADVFS
Filessystem.

Do I need to take backup on tapes using vdump command in Digital Unix
4.0F(UFS) and then use vrestore in 5.1A Filesets?

Thanks & regards.
Vimal
