Hello,

For years we've owned a DS20 with (among other appendages) a TZ875 tape
drive/media changer. Until we upgraded from 4.0g to 5.1a (we also have
had 4.0b and 4.0e onn this system, and have had no problem using the
media changer until this latest OS upgrade), we were able to use the
"mcutil" media changer utility to manipulate tapes in the tape library
stack.

Our /etc/mcicap file contains the following relevant entries:

   # Digital TZ8x7/TZ8x5 DLT Magazine Tape Subsystem
   tz857|tz867|tz877|tz875|tz8x7|tz8x5|Digital TZ8x7/TZ8x5:\
           :it=scsi2:dt=tape:ae:re:
   ...
   mc0|mc24|mc24b:\
           :mc=/dev/changer/mc0:\
           :dn=/dev/ntape/tape0_d1:tc=tz875:

(originally the dn= entry in mc0 pointed to /dev/tape/tape0_d1, but that
doesn't appear to have made any difference in the behaviour I'm seeing.)

Now, using mcutil to try and query the media changer, I can confirm
(from tracing the process) that the mcicap file is read, and that the
process attempts to open /dev/changer/mc0, at which point the process
simply pauses for several minutes before finally timing out and exitting
with an "unknown error".

I'd really like to use the media changer on this tape drive. Can
anybody point me towards whatever it is I must be missing in order to do
so?

Thanks.
