Greetings Admin Wizards,

original question on bottom.
Thanks to Kazuro Furukawa, Frank Lennon and Chris Ruhnke.

Experience shows that the HSZXX - Slimline Batteries are not uncommonly
failing after some months. Although they are delivered with a normal
usage period of 24 months, there is no guarantee for this.

HP only offered me a new battery kit for EUR 220,00.

Frank Lennon pointed out that - if you have a working UPS installed -
the "set nocache_ups" command can be issued that disables the battery
check on the controller.
Since I have a powerchute on line, I decided to give that a try, and
voila - it works.

Thank you all again.

Original question:
In Februar 2002 we replaced the slimline Batteries of one of our HSZ40s
with new ones. The controller worked fine until yesterday.
Then it froze and did not react when pressing the front reset switch.

Only shutting down the second controller and powering off and on the
complete raid shelf helped.
Both controllers came up, a "show this full" on the HSZ in question
showed a "cache battery low" entry in its status report.
After about 10 minutes it failed again, this time resetable by the front
switch.
I let it shut´ed for half an hour or so (to give the battery a chance to
recharge), then resetted it - "cache battery low" - and freeze after ten
minutes or so again.

Is it possible that the batteries are gone after only 9 months or so?
The front sticker on the device said that they are to be replaced by Feb
2004 ....
