Thank you to :

Staab, Brian [Brian.Staab@hp.com]

It appears you have some Customer Specific Patches (CSPs) installed. Are
you aware of the installation of these patches? If you did not install
them as 'Reversible', you will have to determine exactly what files were
changed (in /sys/BINARY?) and replace them with the originals - rebuild
the kernel, reboot & try installing the Patch Kit again. Until you get
those items resolved, dupatch will not allow you to move forward. You
should ALWAYS make your patches reversible (for this very reason)!

Jenny Butler [jbutler@utmem.edu]

Been there, done that! I ran into the same problem. I (very carefully)
did the
following. You want to back up your root, usr, var, and whatever else
first!
I went to /usr/.smdb. and there found four files for each patch, which
were:

OSFPAT000xxxxx520.ctrl
OSFPAT000xxxxx520.inv
OSFPAT000xxxxx520.scp
OSFPAT000xxxxx520.lk

mkdir old-pat
mv OSFPAT000xxxxx520* ./old-pat

This moves the file into a subdirectory but doesn't delete them, in case
I
messed up!
If you are in a cluster, you will have to do a similar thing in
/usr/cluster/members/memberx/.smdb.
There I found OSFPAT000xxxxx520.sts which if renamed to
old-OSFPAT000xxxxx520.sts

Then I ran dupatch and chose the Baseline, to see if it warned me to
delete
these patches.
In my case, it didn't know they were there. I did have to get the files
that those patches
had replaced from the PK2 kit, which I had previously installed.

I talked with HP/Compaq UNIX support and they did NOT support this
method!
If you do try this, be sure that you are willing to scrap all and start
over
from a
previous backup! I did NOT try this on a production system!

My previous work on the system was that I had v5.1A with PK2 installed.
Then
I put on an ESP patch - one of the OSFPATC ones. Something had cleaned
off
the backup files from that ESP patch so I could not uninstall it. I had
to
basically
clean it off manually. Again, I would NOT suggest even trying this if
you
cannot
either go back to a previous backup or scrap the system and reinstall!

                            Good luck, Jenny

----------------------------------------------

Im' currently trying Jenny's proposal and it already works with the
first 2 patches where only one file was patched and where the original
version was on the distribution CD.

The next step will be with the 3rd patch.

As Jenny, I don't know why, on this system, it was impossible to reverse
the patches.

Regards

Daniel
