DS20-to-DS10 copy extremely slow...

We need to backup about 10GB of data/files from a DS20 to a
DS10. The DS20 is connected @1GB full duplex (auto-negotiating) to a Cisco
gigaswitch. The DS10 is connected @100mbps full duplex forced (i.e. no
auto-negotiatiation both on the machine and the switch port).

As an experiment, I tried to copy a 5MB file from my Win2000
PC (connected at 100MB full duplex) to the DS10 and the copy finished in a
few seconds. So was the case from my PC to the DS20 machine. However, when I
try this copy from the DS20 to the DS10, it is extremely slow (on the target
DS10 I can see the file incrementing, using "ls -l", probably every
half-a-minute!).

Why does this happen? Is auto-negotialtion on the DS20
gigabit card (DEGPA) the stumbling block? If so, can it be disabled and
forced to 1GB only and how?

It may be noted that we are doing the copy using standard
ftp.
