AS1200 + RAID-Array: Recommedation

Salut managers,

I'm in the process of choosing and attaching a RAID-array to my AS1200. Before I
will vote for one or the other RAID system I would like to know others
experiences, especially if the RAID system is not one of these originally
produced by CPQ. We can't afford this type. Even since there is not a special
I/O demanding reason forcing to buy a system that will fit I/O bandwith needs,
the plan is to purchase a IDE based system (don't blame me for this, I know of
the drawbacks) with a SCSI interface to the host. The main reason for buying one
of these IDE-RAID systems is storage capacity! Last, but not least, I'm located
in Germany, therefore only in Germany available RAID systems are considered.

Most vendors of those systems claim, that the IDE-RAID system presents itself as
a big disk to the host system, there would be no special kernel driver kit
needed to enable the access to the RAID array. Configuration of the RAID array
is done by a standalone console built into the RAID system.

The hardware and OS relevant datas are:

AS1200
CPU: 2 x 5/533
MEM: 1.125 GByte
SCSI: Qlogic ISP1040B/V2
DISK: 4 intern (3x36GByte, 1x9GByte)

OS: 4.0F, pk6 - planned to go to 5.1

Any hints what to check before puchase are very welcome.

TIA
