Many thanks to the following for sending me in the right direction:
Laura Winkelbaur, Greg Rudd, Cory Erickson, Warren Sturm, Mathew Wild,
Chris Bryant, Tim, Thomas Sjolshagen

The original Problem:

Solution:
It turns out there are three things to be done to completely configure
the new device:

1) The new KZPBA (which is a QLOGIC device) takes SCSI ID 7 by default
which conflicts with the internal RAID controller, so the bios on the
KZPBA must be changed. Until this is done, the system hangs at the SRM
console if you try to change the pka0_host_id variable)

At SRM console:
>>>run bios pka0
Then change the HBA controller SCSI ID to 6

2) Tell the server what SCSI ID to use for the new device:

At SRM console:
>>>show pk* (to show all pk variables)
(In this case the new device is pka0)
>>>set pka0_host_id 6

3) Compile a new kernel with support for the new device:

Boot with the generic kernel, then run doconfig to compile a new the new
kernel.

>>>boot -file genvmunix
#doconfig
