Hi --
I'm a little confused as to the compatibility of two recent
patch kits released for Tru64 5.1A:
1) The Early Release patch kit documented at
http://ftp.support.compaq.com/patches/public/Readmes/unix/t64v51ab2-c0041402-15271-es-20020827.README
2) The aggregate patch kit #3 documented at
http://ftp.support.compaq.com/patches/public/Readmes/unix/t64v51ab03as0003-20020827.README
I installed the Early Relase kit on the systems here due to the general
scariness of the problems described in the README. (Patchkit #2
had previously been installed.)
When I then turned to Patchkit #3, many of the patches there failed
preinstallation check due to conflicts with those in the Early Release
kit.
Just to see what would happen, I tried backing out the conflicting
patches on one system and installing Patchkit #3. That's tedious but
not difficult. But now--you probably saw this coming--the Early Release
patches will not re-install on that system, due to conflicts with the
PK#3 patches.
So apparently you can install one or the other of these patch kits but not
both, which I find uncomfortable. (Unless I'm missing something, and that's
probably not as unlikely as I'd like to think.) If any readers can provide
guidance with wisdom or authority, I'd appreciate it and will summarize.
