Building non-shared executables

I'm trying to build openssh for a box running 4.0 from a box running
5.1a. I thought that maybe if I passed the 'non-share' flag to cc, I
would be OK. Instead, I get /sbin/loader complaining of "unresolvable
symbols" when I try lauching the resulting executables. Would that
suggest I'm not getting statically linked executables?

The point is for me to get ssh on the 4.0 box without being required to
compile it there.

TIA,

Eric Zylstra
