I received a lot of great help. I am still having my troubles after trying
everything under the sun. We are suspecting that the cdrom itself is bad.
We tried mounting with a -r for read only and received the same error.

The two best ways I came across for locating the cdrom device were
grep RRD /var/adm/messages
This returns the bus target and lun of the cdrom....you just have to do the
math to figure out what the device is....luckily for me the device was on
the 0 scsi bus....
Also very useful
scu sho edt
This will also show you the RRD device and its bus target and lun.....

For now we have mounted the cd's in a 5.1 cluster and are copying them back
across a nfs mount....sounds weird but it is working....and at this point
after 12 hours of frustration....that is all I want....for it to work

Thanks for all the help
