Our DBA is wondering about an Oracle recommendation that they
"stripe all files across all disks using 1MB stripe width" and
"mirror data for high availability" and "subset data by partition
rather than disk". Furthermore it recommends "placing frequently
accessed data on the outside of the disks".
We currently create mirrors across 2 disks, and then mount each
mirror as a separated oracle filesystem, ie. /u02, /u03, ..., /u#
We are wondering we should change to a striped mirror - one stripe
across 11x36GB mirrors in an ESA10000 using HSZ70 controllers -
RAID 1+0. Has anyone ever had a problem with this on this hardware?
Oracle is 9iRAC, config is a 2 node cluster, T64 v5.1A, TCR 5.1A,
using memory channel. OS and /u01 will be on a different array
(other half of this one, with separate set of controllers), so
that they are not impacted by this config.
Furthermore, should we partition with UNIX partitions (a-h) or
should I use the array's partitioning capability? And how should
we locate files in this config? This is a new area of tuning for
us, any help will be deeply appreciated?
