Hi all,

My special thanks to Tony Patton who simulated the similar setup and pin-point the problem.
Also I 'm thankful to Patrick Miguel, Jeffrey Hummel, ROBIN Jean-Marie, Murtaza, Devesh Pant for giving guidance on the same topic.

Solution to the problem:

a) Sample of /etc/printcap file on Alphaserver:

lp2|dmp:\
      :lf=/usr/adm/lp*err:\
      :lp=:\
      :rm=win2k:\
      :rp=dmp:\
      :sd=/usr/spool/lpd*:

* is the extension file/ directory names.

win2k is Intel server name which we can ping from Alphaserver
dmp is the name of printer defined in windows2000. Local printing through Win2k works ok.

b) Configured "Print Services for Unix" on Windows2000 Server

c) After this start TCP/IP Print Service, which By default doesn't start automatically.

This solution really works!

Thanks again.
Regards.

> I 'm facing one problem related to remote printing on Tru64Unix version 5.1A:
> Printer type : Panasonic KX-P3626
> Connected with Intel Server (Windows2000) on Centronix (Parallel Port).
> This Intel server is on the Network and can access Alphaserver DS20E through Ping or Telnet.
> I have tried configuring this printer using lprsetup:
> :dmp=:\
> :sd=/usr/spool/hp5l:\
> :ct=remote:\
> :lf=/usr/spool/hp5l/log:\
> :rm=win2k:\
> :rp=win2k:
> win2k Intel server is given IP address which is defined in /etc/hosts of Alphaserver.
> But when I give:
> #lp -ddmp <filename> or #lpr -Pdmp <filename>
> entry remains in spool area & doesn't print.
> Please advise & if possible send a sample printcap file.
> Thanks & regards.
