Thanks to all you great people:

Murtaza Talawala
Patrick Miguel

Lucien Hercaud
Mervyn (Merv) Weis
Alan Davis
Pat O'Brien
Raul Sossa

The consensus was: Not possible!
So I will do a vdump, remove unit, remove raidset, add disks, create new
raidset and new unit, and vrestore the data.

A few alternatives and additional info were mentioned:

Patrick Miguel:
>If you have the ADVFS utilities license installed, you can >create a new
raid set on your HS80 and initalize it.
>
>After that you can user the "addvol new_devices >domain_name" commande to
extend your advfs domain with >the new devices.
>
>This will add in /ect/fdmns the new devices to your existing >domain.
>
>Last commande is "balance domain_name" to balance the >used space among
volume.
>
>You can do this manipulations in production ! No interrutpion >needed :)
>
>Otherwise you have to destroy/create a new raidset with the >new disks and
restore the data.

Murtaza Talawala:
>What you should do in this case is if U have enough disks >make one raid
set of 9*36GB.
>
>Make a file set on it.
>
>Do a vdump of ur data on this new file set and then break off >from the
earlier raid set and on the OS and start using the new >one.
>
>Or the other option is as U said to to re-create the same again.

Alan Davis:
>With reasonably new (8.6+) ACS code you can extend a >storageset but it's
very limited. You can only do it once and >you can't clone, partition, etc.
>
>The 8.6 ACS manual is here:
>
>ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/products/storageworks/techdoc/acs/EK>-G80CL-RA-A01
.p
>df
>
>See page 2-101 for command details.
>
>Under Tru64 only raw storage or UFS may be dynamically >extended. For
ADVfs/CFS you would have to remake the >domain to take advantage of the
additional space.

Raul Sossa:
>Well, if you have tru64unix, I'm not sure if you will need to
>reorganize the disklabel blocks on the disk, but anyway, for >NT you will
need to reboot, and for Windows 2000 you will >need to rescan the disk
(Device Manager -> Action -> Scan >Disks).
>
>OK. I would recomend you to do this with a previous backup >of your RAID
SET and see how the File Systems are >increased:
>
>This is the more close solution to ONLINE EXPANSION >fron a HSG80:
>
>Let's say your current RAID SET is called RAIDONE, your >new (PREVIOUSLY
INITIALIZED)
>raid set is RAIDTWO and your current HSG80 Unit Number >for RAIDONE will be
composed by a Concatset named >"C1" (configured by two RAID SETS).
>
>HSG80-ControllerA> ADD CONCATSET C1 RAIDONE
>HSG80-ControllerA> SET C1 ADD = RAIDTWO.
>
>That's it ! Now, your current LUN# (pj: D100) will be >conformed by the
concatset "C1" and this, therefore, will have >RAIDONE and RAIDTWO as its
grouped disks.
>
>See how it works on Tru64UNIX, do you have to >reorganized the disklabel on
the disk?
>I sincerely have not tested this on Tru64UNIX, I know it >works for Windows
2000 on the fly ...

And my original question:

>I want to add 3 disks (36 Gb) to an existing 6 disk (36 Gb) >raidset (raid
3/5) in my ra8000/hsg80 system.
>Is it possible to expand the raidset on the fly with three
>
>set r3 replace=<diskname>
>
>commands.
>
>Or do I have to delete r3, build it again with the 9 disks and >restore the
data.
