FDDI Networks 'go away'

Hello,

We have been struggling with this for some time now so I thought I'd see
if anybody else out there has seen anything like it...

We are running Tru64V5.1 with Patch Kit 5 installed - although, we have
seen it in previous versions of the O.S. as well.

We have three (3) networks configured on our systems: one (1) Ethernet
network, and two separate FDDI networks. Infrequently, (but still too
often) we get into a state where both of our FDDI networks go
unavailable. We can't ping FROM these systems or TO these systems when
this occurs. It has happened on several different GS320 systems we deal
with.

'netstat' shows that the upstream & downstream addresses go to:
                        00-00-F8-00-00-00

We have tried everything that we can think of to try to get the networks
restarted, to no avail. The ONLY way we have found to get them back is
to do a reboot. The NIC cards 'look' okay - the lights act as though
there is nothing wrong. The network guys at the site swear there is no
indication of a problem on their switches...

Has anybody seen this?

Brian Staab
