SUMMARY: unable to get dtadvfs to connect to host

Thanks to Olle Eriksson, Chris Ruhnke, Oisin McGuinness for explaining that:

On a 5.1 machine, it is in the subset OSFXADVFS510:

setld -i OSFXADVFS510
./usr/OV
./usr/OV/icons
./usr/OV/icons/gifs
./usr/OV/icons/gifs/advfs.gif
./usr/OV/registration
./usr/OV/registration/C
./usr/OV/registration/C/advfs
./usr/advfs/gui
./usr/advfs/gui/scripts
./usr/advfs/gui/scripts/add-volume
./usr/advfs/gui/scripts/balance-domain
./usr/advfs/gui/scripts/mail-alert
./usr/bin/X11/dtadvfs
./usr/bin/X11/dxadvfs
./usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/Dtadvfs

etc.

(In general, you can do
grep filename-or-program-name /usr/.smdb./*.inv
to find what subset the program is in.)

and

According to a grep of the .inv files in /usr/.smdb./ it is a part of the
OSFXADVFS subset.
Since AdvFS Utilities are bundled with the OS in V5 I would expect this is
on the main OS CDROM.
I would try:

- mount the CD
- run setld -l /<cdmountpoint>/ALPHA/BASE
- see if it offers you the "AdvFS Graphical User Interface"
- if so, select it!

and

dtadvfs is in OSFXADVFS520. Since things are put in subsets, searching
the CD for a particular program won't help. You can search the *.inv files
in /usr/.smdb. to find out this.

Thanks so much!

Andy

ORIGINAL QUESTION
===============

Hi,

On a 4100 just upgraded to 5.1A PK2 -- I can't get dtadvfs to work.

It launches but says it can't connect to host:

        Failed to make agent connection to host:

When I go to 'HELP -> About' it shows the release as 4.0E.

When I issue;

        $ ls -alF /usr/bin/X11/dtadvfs

I get:

        -r-x------ 1 root bin 6619136 Jul 31 1998
/usr/bin/X11/dtadvfs*

Which is older than the dtadvfs on a DS20E that is running 4.0F

from the 4.0F machine:

        ls -alF dtadvfs

        -r-x------ 1 root bin 6569984 Feb 11 1999 dtadvfs*

Thanks (again)!

Andy
