apache 2 with ssl on 5.1A

Is anyone running Apache 2 with ssl on 5.1A? I have built the thing (with
gcc 3.0.3, openssl 0.96b) generated the relevant certificates. When I start
thing
/gnu/bin/apachectl startssl, it asks me for the passphrase, I enter that
successfully. then I get a message /gnu/bin/apachectl startssl: httpd startd
and my prompt back, but there are no httpd process running....

I have build both with and without DSO support..

Can anyone help?

PS I am able to build apache with out ssl and everyting works file.
