  Hallo,
I got the following reoly from Jean-Pierre Vorlet. Many thanks. He has
   written the following:

"On Wolfram Web site (URL on next ligne)
http://support.wolfram.com/mathematica/systems/unix/digitalunix \
/tru64fe.html

you can read this:

When the front end executable loads, a series of common system
calls are invoked. The return values of these calls are
compared against expected values. In the event that an
unexpected value is encountered, warning messages are sent to
the stderr stream.

Mathematica 4 is compiled on a Compaq Tru64 UNIX V4.0B system.
Between that release of Tru64 UNIX and the current one, a
change was made in the return value of the system call. Because
the code does not take the new value into account, warning
messages are printed.

The return values do not affect adversely theoperation of the
front end. The messages are benign and can be ignored.

However, we are updating our code to take into account the new
return value so that this problem does not occur in future
releases.

Admittedly, the popup dialog box with warning messages can be
an inconvenience. As a workaround, one can invoke Mathematica
with the command line option -nostderrWindow along with
appropriate shell redirection operators to direct the warning
messages to a file or /dev/null.

Subject: Mathematica on Tru64

I have installed mathematica on our file server. This is an AFS file
server.
On all Tru64 machines afs client is installed. The OS is Tru64 v5.1A.
The /usr/local is a link to /afs/psi.ch/sw.The SW is installed on
/usr/local.

When I start the mathematica SW I get the following message
      in 'stderr' window:

 lo0: Invalid argument
sl0: Invalid argument

      I use tu0 interface:.

    tu0: DECchip 21143: Revision: 3.0
    tu0: auto negotiation capable device
    tu0 at pci0 slot 3
tu0: DEC TULIP (10/100) Ethernet Interface, hardware address:
    00-00-F8-76-69-C4
tu0: auto negotiation on: will advertise 100BaseTX (UTP) port: full
duplex

I can use the SW. But I would like to know why I get this message.

    regards,
    Kumar
