A bit off topic. THE NEW HPAQ

Dear managers,

in an effort to let you all sleep at night...

1.) Understand that the Alpha's are here to stay. The names may be
changing but I don't think it's much to worry about.

2.) HP will have to do something about their prices in order to make this
merger work. They will have no choice in the matter, and you as "their"
customers will dictate that. Let us not forget that they have just soaked
up the price / performance leader.

3.) My guess is you'll be very surprised to see what the New HP-UX will
look like / Operate like.
They might as well call it HP-TRU-UX.

4.) I think we will all be surprised at what the new HP as a company looks
like. It's a bit confusing
because to the general public, this really looks like COMPAQ should have
taken over HP. They might as well have, because they have pretty much
dumped their entire product line and picked up the old digital / compaq
lines. The only thing HP about HPAQ is Fiorna and laserjets.

5.) The fact that they are required to support VMS for 15-20 years by the
Government, tells me that there
will be New and refurbished alphas available for quite some time. Heck, I
still have a couple PDP11's
and even a few AS2100's sitting around.
