Jim, Many thanks for your response. You are quite right.

It was Compaq (sorry, HP!) who had suggested the mfs, but they now confirm
that it is not supported.

You may want to check the Release Notes but I did not think Memory File
Systems
were supported on TruCluster Server V5.1.
