gcc error from open source dist

After installing the GnuPro tools from the v5.1a Open Source disk and the
Linux Portability toolset I'm getting this error from gcc :

mips-tfile:Symbol table is not last (symbol table ends at 1560, .o ends at
1592

This installation is on an AS300 4/266, v6.1 fw, v5.1a.

Any idea where I can look for the problem?
