UPDATE: NCD Boot Hangs

Interesting things Here:
I figured out something...but not able to contruct a
big picture yet.
Unplugging cat cable from one of the interfaces on a
single server (font server) cures the initial problem.
Xterms were able to boot once again. Reason why it
would not boot from multiple hosts is that fonts still
had to be downloaded from this single server.

font server has two NICS, snipp and snipp-nfs

1. The one i had to remove is the nfs link. Now ssh
does not work (complains snipp-nfs not responding,
even though it is configured to only listen to snipp
interface)

2. The hardware (snipp-nfs, NIC) has a "not so good"
amber light in one of its status lights. Makes me
think a hardware problem, though uerf does indicate
anything, syslogs, messages, all are not complaining.
Is there a way to troubleshoot hardware NIC apart from
the amber light? (DECchip 10/100, 100BaseTX (UTP))

3. When i plug the cat cable back to it (nsipp-nfs),
ssh works, but all other communication to server
stops!!! Even pings then show 300ms round trip average
same server on same subnet. What would cause this kind
of confusion?

Same configuration been in existence for over 3years,
no local changes done whatsoever.......Hints are
highly welcomed........brainstorming request

_Thanks

Richard
