Compiling auth_ldap on Tru64 Unix: unresolved symbols

Hi -

I'm trying to compile the Apache auth_ldap module (v1.6.0) on Tru64 Unix v4.0F.

I've built and installed the OPenLDAP libraries (v2.0.23); the "make
test" for this showed no errors.

On attempting to compile auth_ldap, I get lots of unresolved symbols,
including standard stuff like free, malloc, strlen and so on!

This is depite having an LD_LIBRARY_PATH variable that includes both
/usr/lib and /usr/local/lib

Can anyone help?
