CPU Utilisation Metrics

Hi Everyone,

I am currently working on a project that requires some performance analysis
of an application
to be performed. I believe that CPU utilisation is important to observe,
through the use of tools
such as mpstat, Sun's performance toolkit and (possibly) process accounting.

At the moment we observe Wait %, Usr %, Sys % as well as the CPU hog factor
obtainable
from process accounting. Do you think that these are valid metrics to
observe for the duration
of a process? If so what specific things would you look for? Is it worth
creating processor
sets on MP boxes? We are basically interested in knowing if a particular
application is hindering
the performance of other systems on the box.

Alternatively, if you have any other suggestions please let me know.

Thanks,
Matt.
