Nis+ Solaris/Linux problem

Dear all

I have a Solaris 7 server with latest patches, which is my Nis+ master
server. I am attempting to join a RedHat 7.3 Linux box to my domain. I have
compiled nis-utils-1.4.1 successfully but when I try to use nisinit or
nisclient to join the domain I fail. I have run a snoop which informs me
thus:

calliope -> hades.dcs.napier.ac.uk. PORTMAP C GETPORT prog=100300 (NIS+)
vers=3 proto=TCP (retransmit)
hades.dcs.napier.ac.uk. -> calliope PORTMAP R GETPORT port=717
    calliope -> hades.dcs.napier.ac.uk. ICMP Destination unreachable (Bad
port)

Port 717 isn't mentioned in /etc/services. Also there is more than 3minutes
difference in time between the server and client. I am not a network admin
so don't appreciate the significance of the snoop results. Can anyone advise
me how I can resolve this situation and successfully join my domain?
