mac to the serial of a sun

Uhm...seriously thinking of buying a mac laptop. Has anybody ever connected
the mac to a serial or rsc card on a sun box. One person told me he did it
using a usb to serial converter from radio shack but I've lost contact with him
plus that was on a pre-os-x powerbook.

HELP!!
