You all probably think i'm stoopid now... but yppush doesn't work, and i can't
work out why! i also have another problem... let me explain...
I now have everything working... almost. On my NIS server, everything works fine
('ypcat shadow.byname' works, 'ypcat passwd.byname' works, and i can log in as
different users fine)
On my NIS client, this doesn't work so well... 'ypcat shadow.byname' works, but
doesn't display any results. No errors either though. I still cannot login as
different users on my client (i presume cos it can't get at the 'shadow.byname'
map). 'ypcat passwd' works fine though, and displays all correct results.
Also, i made a change to the '/etc/passwd' file on my NIS server, and tried to
push it into the NIS, but the following happened:
turnip:/var/yp/hobbs# yppush -d hobbs -h turnip -v passwd.byname
turnip has been called.
Status received from ypxfr on turnip.hobbs:
Transfer not done: Master's version not newer
turnip:/var/yp/hobbs#
but i don't understand how this can be, because:
turnip:/var/yp/hobbs# ls -l
total 128
-rw------- 1 root root 12525 Feb 12 10:50 group.bygid
-rw------- 1 root root 12540 Feb 12 10:50 group.byname
-rw------- 1 root root 12818 Feb 12 10:50 hosts.byaddr

turnip:/var/yp/hobbs# ls -l /etc | grep passwd
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1389 Feb 12 13:55 passwd
-rw------- 1 root root 1372 Feb 4 13:50 passwd-
turnip:/var/yp/hobbs#
and as you can see... the '/etc/passwd' file has a later date than the
'passwd.byname' file...
any ideas??
