As it turns out, someone had edited the hosts file and in the localhost
line had put the dns name of the system (same as in hostname.eri0) and
that has fixed the issue. Thanks again for all of your quick responses.

I think you are confusing IP address with MAC address.

Normally the second interface has a different name (we use hostname for
the first interface and hostnamea for the second).

You would have two entries in the /etc/inet/hosts file, IP addresses
dependant on your network, for example:
149.191.100.101 myhost
149.191.101.101 myhosta

You have two network configuration files.
The file /etc/hostname.eri0 would contain the entry:
myhost

The file /etc/hostname.eri1 would contain the entry:
myhosta

You can then configure the new interface with the ifconfig command.
Easiest thing to do is to reboot. If you then run the command:
ifconfig -a
you should see entries for both interfaces.

Subject: Error: SIOCSLIFFLAGS Cannot assign requested address

Hello all, I have a Sunfire V120, standard configuration so it has two
enet interfaces, eri0 and eri1. At first it was working fine, however
now when the system boots I get the message:

SIOCSLIFFLAGS Cannot assign requested address

Eri0 is configured with an IP address, eri1 is not configured. I read on
the archives of this list to do the following in the eeprom:

setenv local-mac-address? true

Which I did, the default is set to false. This system is running Solaris
8 and because the system is running some DBs it won't boot, I am
assuming because of this error. I am able to get into single user mode
to make any changes I need.

Any thoughts? Help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!
