sysadmin duties

All,
   I'm interested in gathering some info. If you could share your
experiences with me I'd appreciate it a lot. I'll summarize back to the
list and I think we could all see some cool stuff.

It seems that System Administrators aren't really understood by mgmt.
Management often gives system administrators tasks of running third-party
applications, designing network topology or other things that may or may not
be part of your jobs.

So...

1) What do you do day to day? Where is most of your time spent? Do you
mainly interact with people or terminal windows? Are you expected to assume
help-desk style roles?

2) What do people ask you to do that you think is clearly out of the context
of your job?

3) If you could change the way the system administration group in your
office is laid out, what would you do?
