vold & removable media

Hi all

I have attached a SCSI floppy disk drive to a Sun Fire V880 running Solaris
8. vold.conf is in its original state. The floppy is mounted by vold at
/rmdisk/rmdisk0 since it is a removable disk drive, and not a "normal"
floppy drive. The drive cannot eject automatically but requires the user to
push the eject button.

When I use the CDE Removable Media Manager to "eject" (in this case I only
want it to unmount the disk so that I can eject it myself), I get "I/O
error". The same occurs if I use the eject command. I believe this error
is occurring because Solaris is trying to actually eject the disk rather
than simply unmount it. Note, the disk *is* unmounted, there is not
genuinely an error.

The vold.conf man page says that vold will only attempt to eject devices
that can be ejected, otherwise it will leave the user to do so. My question
is: how can I tell vold not to try to eject my floppy disk?

Thanks in advance
