Good morning, all.
I've got an issue with the overall performance of Solaris 9 on a Ultra
5. It just seems really slow and sluggish. I will do a ls -la and it
pauses for second before proceeding. At first, I figured it was just
heavy loads on the processor, but that doesn't seem to be the case. The
Ultra that is having the problems looks like this:
Ultra 5
333MHZ
512 MB Ram
2 x 13.8 GB Drives
Here is a vmstat on the above mentioned box:
[mapper:1:/export/home/peterf] vmstat
kthr memory page disk faults
cpu
r b w swap free re mf pi po fr de sr dd dd f0 s1 in sy cs us

And a 'top':
load averages: 0.14, 0.10, 0.11
00:50:33
58 processes: 57 sleeping, 1 on cpu

Prior to Solaris 9, it ran nice and fast. Now, what makes this really
strange is the other Ultra runs fine - and it is built out like this:
Ultra 5
270 MHZ
256 MB Ram
1 x 13.8 GB Drive
As you can see, it's got a slower processor and less RAM. They've both
got the same install from the same media kits. I did some digging
around on the web for tips, but nothing seems to help.
Does anyone here have any ideas?
Thanks!
- pete
