folks,
many thanks to all who responded.
The problem turned out to be a file in /usr/ccs/lib - values-Xa.o - which -
for some reason - related to the wrong machine class. Possibly cauesd by a
faulty patch.
I ftpd the file from another box with the same OS and all is now fine.
