how to remove this metadevice

Hello all.

I have a metadevice that is in this state:

d21: Submirror of d20
    State: Needs maintenance
    Invoke: metareplace d20 c0t0d0s1 <new device>
    Size: 4192965 blocks
    Stripe 0:
        Device Start Block Dbase State Hot Spare
        c0t0d0s1 0 No Maintenance

d22: Submirror of d20
    State: Needs maintenance
    Invoke: metasync d20
    Size: 4192965 blocks
    Stripe 0:
        Device Start Block Dbase State Hot Spare
        c0t1d0s1 0 No Okay
----------------------------------------

The system is not using this metadevice (nothing is mounted on it). The OS
is using the raw slices for c0t0d0.

My problem is how do I get rid of it? I have tried the following commands:

metadetach -f d20 d21
metadetach -f d20 d22
metaoffline -f d20 d21
metaoffline -f d20 d22

All of these commands give me the following message:

 d20: resync in progress

Any ideas?
