Hi,
I have a machine in a data center. The rack had a power loss and the
machine's power was cut and it killed the box.
On startup /usr/local/ on /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3 was corrupt.
USE AN ALTERNATE SUPER-BLOCK TO SUPPLY NEEDED INFORMATION; eg. fsck [-F ufs]
-o b=# [special ...] where # is the alternate super block. SEE fsck_ufs(1M).
etc etc etc
I booted into single user mode and got a l got the list of alternate
superblocks for slice 3 with
newfs -Nv /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s3
I then tried
fsck -F ufs -o b=$NEW_SUPERBLOCK /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s3
with all the available superblocks each time I got the error, bad superblock
use an alternate super-block blah blah blah.
Why is this ?? surly one of them would still be ok ?
Is there a way to revover this disk ?
Also what changes can I make to my UFS partitions to stop this from
happening, ie disk logging - maintaining a disk good house keeping on the
disk etc etc.
As a quick aside I couldn't find an archive for this maillist, however I did
find random posts from this list on google on this topic, non really helped
so I apologise if I have missed this response in an archive.
Matt.
