NIS group membership isn't taken into account

Hello!

I'm having a problem with one of our SunOS 5.8 servers.

The machine is setup to get user and group information via NIS. In NIS,
I've got a group in which I'm a member. Further, the same group exists
locally in /etc/group on the server and there I'm no member.

Now I've got a directory on the server, which belongs to root:group and has
775 access rights. I can successfully create files in this directory
(verified by doing touch file and also by FTPing files into this directory).

Another user of mine, however, cannot create files in the directory. Just
as me, he isn't listed in the local group file, but only in the NIS group
file. But if I add this user to the local group, he can create files in
this directory.

Any ideas about what I might have setup wrong on the server? Also if you
do need additional information to be better able to help me, feel free to
ask - I'm more than willing to provide what ever I can!

Thanks a lot,

Alexander Skwar
