Hi,
Could anyone tell me if it is possible to chgrp a file to a group
that i am not a member of on Solaris 5.8 using NIS to authenticate
and NFS to mount home areas.
I have managed to accomplish this by writing a small C program
setuid root which then calls a perl script which does the chgrp 'ing.
The C program does not work when trying to chgrp a file on a NFS
mounted home area. It does work on the local filesystem (e.g. /tmp),
however when i copy the file back to my home area, the group
permissions are set back to my default user settings (i.e. user:staff)
Here is an excerpt from nsswitch.conf if it will help.
# /etc/nsswitch.conf
group: files nis
All help much appreciated.
(apologies if you see this mail twice.)
Thanks
Martin
