Re: ASR on E5500

OK folks,
the behaviour below is completely normal.
Tom Stanley's response probably explains it best:

The disk boards in an Enterprise system only draw power from the
centerplane. They do not logically attach to it. The data connection for the
disks is done with an external SCSI cable off of some SCSI HBA--usually the
on-board SCSI of an I/O board.

Since the board does not interface with the centerplane, it shows up as
disabled in prtdiag.

>From the FE Handbook:
a.. The normal LED pattern is On-Off-On prior to Solaris 2.6 HW 5/98.
b.. The normal LED pattern is Off-On-Off in Solaris >=2.6 HW 5/98.

    -Tom Stanley

Thanks again to all who replied.

Hi folks,
we have an E5500 which appears to be running fine
and which has no errors in the messages file.

When I run prtdiag -v on this box, the two Disk Boards
are reported thus:
**************************************
Detached Boards
===============
  Slot State Type Info
  ---- --------- ------
-----------------------------------------
    3 disabled disk Disk 0: Target: 0 Disk 1: Target: 1
    7 disabled disk Disk 0: Target: 0 Disk 1: Target: 1

N.B. there are no other mentions of the boards.
***********************

Our root disks are running on these boards and seem OK.
On the back of the boards the middle LED is yellow
and the other two LED's are off. This indicates low-power
mode. The two disk access LED's are flashing green as the
disks are being accessed.

Can anyone tell me what state the box is in ?
It appears the root disks are reading/writing fine but prtdiag
is telling me the boards are diabled !!!!!

Any ideas ?

Thanks.
