st.conf and sd.conf

Hello Managers,

I heard a rumor yesterday that you can get by without using the st.conf
and sd.conf files in Solaris 8. We would like to do this since we track
downtime, etc. and often get requests for more disk space added to these
boxes from our EMC SAN in which we have to modify the sd.conf file and
reboot. I've searched sunsolve and didn't find anything. If this is
true could someone point me in the right direction as how to get more
information about this.

Thanks,
