DHCP problem

Hi all,

I have a V100 running Solaris 8, with DHCP on the primary ethernet
interface (dmfe0). It was running fine up until yesterday, when it
suddenly decided that its IP address was in use by a specific MAC
address. Strangely enough, this MAC address is the MAC address of the
primary interface.

The relevant messages in /var/adm/messages look like this:

Nov 20 17:16:20 <host> /sbin/dhcpagent[459]: [ID 410337 daemon.error] IP address already in use by <XX XX XX XX XX XX>
Nov 20 17:16:20 <host> /sbin/dhcpagent[459]: [ID 220039 daemon.warning] dhcp_acknak: dhcp_bound failed for dmfe0

and `ifconfig dmfe0` says:

# ifconfig dmfe0
dmfe0: flags=1004842<BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,DHCP,IPv4> mtu 1500 index 3
        inet 0.0.0.0 netmask 0
        ether XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX

The XX'd out MAC addresses in both cases are identical.

I have spoken to the DHCP server administrator, and he says that my
server is rejecting the offer of a lease.

I have tried manually setting the address using ifconfig, but that
doesn't seem to help -- at least, I can't ping it once I've done that.
The route table also doesn't include a route for the address -- it
only has the loopback route.

Any hints as to why this would happen, or what I can do about it?

Thanks

rr
